Join us to celebrate two new exhibitions at an Open House featuring family activities, performances, and talks from artists and curators. The entire day is free and open to the public.
At 12:30 p.m., participate in a family activity workshop with artist Yto Barrada and educator Isa Rodrigues, inspired by modular block games, botanical models, and her monumental sculpture Le Grand Soir. Using natural paints made of soy milk and earth pigments, emerging artists ages 5–13 can paint wooden blocks to construct imaginary plants, flowers, and insects. Capacity is limited for this event, free with RSVP.
At 2 p.m., hear poetry by artists from The Fortune Society in Artbook.
At 3 p.m., attend a curatorial walkthrough of Ceremonies Out of the Air: Ralph Lemon with Connie Butler, The Agnes Gund Director of MoMA PS1 and Thomas Lax, Curator, Department of Media and Performance, MoMA.
From 3 to 6 p.m., join artists from The Fortune Society in Classroom with Freedom Agenda and 13th Forward, two member-led projects dedicated to organizing communities directly impacted by incarceration. With goals to achieve decarceration and system transformation, the groups will share information on the fight to close Rikers Island, the No Slavery in New York Act, and the Fairness and Opportunity for Incarcerated Workers Act.
At 4 p.m., experience the New York City premiere of Ralph Lemon’s newest performance, Tell it anyway. Lemon and his collaborators weave abstract movement and song lyrics into an explosive examination of memory, race, and impermanence. Capacity is limited for this ticketed event, free with RSVP.
Head to Artbook at MoMA PS1 to check out the exhibition catalogue for Ceremonies Out of the Air: Ralph Lemon, including a limited number of copies signed by the artist. Featuring a dust jacket that unfolds into a poster, the book includes more than 100 full-color illustrations and is available for $30.
