Join musicians Eric Hernandez and Joaquin Tenorio–who form the collaborative duo nudo–and MoMA PS1 Assistant Curator Kari Rittenbach for a conversation on the pair’s musical references, aural collage techniques, and the schizo-sonic intensity of necropolitics at the US-Mexico border. Combining found clips from social media, Tejano fusion, cumbia rhythms, electronic effects, white noise, and acoustic samples, their work expresses a gothic-romantic vitality on the cusp of oblivion. nudo and Rittenbach will discuss the duo’s influences, the terrains of their sound, and the dull thrum of everyday brutality.
As part of the Warm Up 2023 season, MoMA PS1 presents a performance by nudo at 5 p.m. in the Courtyard. Their layered musical exchanges spatialize the intertwined beauty and desolation of the desert borderlands.
Please note that our galleries will close at 4 p.m. and reopen at 5 p.m. for Warm Up.
The conversation is free with Museum admission. The performance is included with Warm Up tickets (General Admission: $15; Students and MoMA Members: $12).
nudo is the project of Austin-based musicians Eric Hernandez and Joaquin Tenorio, originally from Eagle Pass and Ciudad Juárez, respectively. They focus on the inversion of regional, Tejano, and norteño sounds to emphasize the deeply irregular and hybridized phrasings, play styles, traditions, and mythologies encrypted therein.
