Join us to celebrate three new exhibitions at an Open House featuring talks, readings, and workshops from artists and curators. The entire day is free and open to the public.
The event marks the opening weekend of Pacita Abad, an exhibition that includes over 50 textiles, paintings, and works on papers by the prolific artist; Melissa Cody: Webbed Skies, a survey of experimental textiles by the fourth-generation Navajo/Diné weaver; and Regina José Galindo: Tierra, a monumental video installation exhibited for the first time since entering the collection of The Museum of Modern Art. The festivities also mark the closing weekend of Teen Art Salon: A Protospective, a Homeroom presentation of work by ten early-career alumni from the Long Island City-based organization.
At 3 p.m., attend a conversation about Pacita Abad’s life and legacy with MoMA PS1 Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs Ruba Katrib, art historian Joan Kee, and Pio Abad, artist and curator of the Pacita Abad Art Estate.
At 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., attend a sketchbook workshop led by Teen Art Salon for artists ages 10 through 18. Sign up to explore the sketchbook as space to dream, prepare, rehearse, and record. Materials will be provided.
At 4:30 p.m., learn more about Melissa Cody’s work in a gallery talk with curators Ruba Katrib and Isabella Rjeille.
At 5:30 p.m., listen to artist Regina José Galindo read a selection of her poetry. This event takes place in Spanish, with simultaneous interpretation in English available.
Throughout the early afternoon, participate in a Teen Art Salon photobooth on the terrace. Take a Polaroid for the chance to be featured on MoMA PS1’s social media.
Plus, from 1–4 p.m., drop by a collage and journaling workshop with Young New Yorkers, a Brooklyn-based organization that amplifies the voices of justice-involved youth through the arts.
