In conjunction with the opening, Bosnian artist Selma Selman premieres Motherboards, a high-powered performance in which gold is extracted from scrapped computer parts, accompanied by live electronic music. This full day of free activities for all ages.
In this 45-minute hands-on workshop, participants will explore the inventive and imaginative world of artist Jean Katambayi Mukendi, featured in The Gatherers. Drawing from the concept of the “impossible machine,” participants will respond to prompts that encourage creative problem-solving, teamwork, and thinking beyond functionalit led by Teen Art Salon. To celebrate the opening weekend of The Gatherers, join artist Selma Selman (Bosnian, b. 1991) for the US premiere of her performance Motherboards in the courtyard. The performance involves the removal of precious alloys from disused computers, a reverse extraction process that reclaims materials stripped from the earth.
