Playlists from Teen Art Salon

  • Playlist

To mark the opening of Teen Art Salon: A Protospective, we’re sharing a series of playlists created by the organization’s founder, Isabella Bustamante. In the early days of Teen Art Salon, young artists often spent their entire weekend at the studio listening to these playlists, which now total over 200. The selection below represents a few important periods for the program and its participants:

“Don't Wait Too Long” includes songs about persistence and the passage of time. “Parallel Universe Outer Body Experience” compiles tunes with existential lyrics and sublime rhythms to inspire action. “BackToSchool” and “Back2School2” were played in September to hype students for the return of the school year, and explore classroom dread, the complexity of friendship, and the pursuit of individuality.

Bustamante writes: “A crucial component of professional artmaking consists of uninterrupted work-making sessions, and staying motivated through collective listening has fostered creative stamina and social inclusion.”
