Sunday, May 5, 2013
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

A talk with author/researcher Andrew Zolli, urban designer Walter Meyer, landscape architect Jennifer Bolstad and Jaime Jordan, Jessica Klein and Katie Honan of Rockaway Help.

Andrew Zolli is a futures researcher, author of Resilience: Why Things Bounce Back and Chief Creative Officer of PopTech, a global community of innovators from different fields that work on new approaches to some of the world's most difficult issues. Walter Meyer and Jennifer Boldstad are co-founders of Local Office Landscape Architecture, an award-winning firm that operates at the intersection of infrastructure, urbanism and coastal territory. Jaime Jordan, Jessica Klein and Katie Honan were born and raised in Rockaway Beach and are co-founders of Rockaway Help (also known as Rockaway Emergency Plan on Facebook), a community-based, hyper-local journalism project that maintains a community of more than 11,000.

These panelists will explore how the social, political, and technological dynamics of resilient communities influence physical resiliency of coastal infrastructure, ecology, and urbanism. With the audience as a think-tank, the session will be a discourse on post-storm adaptation for unique and diverse coastal urban communities such as the Rockaways to thrive after the next disturbance.
