Artist's Statement

In the face of adversity I approach life with an unyielding optimism. My use of color and composition is rooted in the peacefulness of my Caribbean tradition.
Within the context of my serene constructed environments, I bathe my work with the warmth of light and the movements of freedom. For me, art is a combination of distraction and meditation. My paintings and sculptures celebrate that paradise we often glimpse but rarely see.

Walford Williams was born in Jamaica, West Indies.
He is a painter, photographer, ceramist and a sculptor.
Williams has exhibited his work throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean.
He is an artist in residence with chashama in Harlem.

Currently Williams is working on a series of paintings that examine the allure of popular cultural icons.
