Artist's Statement

My work explores themes of adolescent culture, violence, and death through installation, printmaking, painting, and drawing. By creating imagery that is both subtle and filled with dark humor, I can comment on violent events without being dogmatic or forcing viewer alienation. I am particularly interested in the American media’s obsession with violent imagery and the audience’s desire to soak it in and greedily come back for more. The paradox between the public’s desire for sensational stories involving brutality and death and the private emotions that come as a result of grief and loss plays a pivotal role in my work.
