Artist's Statement

I am a painter working mainly in two styles: landscapes and abstracts. The landscapes tend to be crisp realism, sometime bird eye views often depiction the made made environment. The abstracts are often hard edge geometrics with pattern, shape, color + typography. For a few years, I made a series called ‘United Shapes’ where the painting were collage like, with 3D elements which give them the look of a three-dimensional collage. In a more recent series, the painting are purely geometric almost op-art like. Some works have polygon shaped surfaces (birch plywood) that refer directly to the shape to the subject—making the flat painting look like a three-dimensional object—like a sculpture popping off the wall. But there are many elements in these two broad categories that overlap. Geometry being the main one but there is also typography, signage, color and perspective. The paintings I am submitting for review are the latest abstracts.
