My work combines drawing and painting to create amalgamated industrial and geological forms that are abstracted from images of man-made and natural disasters found through Google image searches. Negative space and multiple perspectives create a disorienting and threatening environment where in nothing supports the weight of the figures as they drift and crumble. I am interested in reexamining romantic notions of the sublime in light of seemingly dire contemporary political and environmental circumstances, while recognizing the limitations of painting and drawing in revealing the sublime. My work is not meant to be polemical but is rather an illustration of collective anxiety and uncertainty; it seeks beauty within chaos. www.timwebsterstudio.com
