Artist's Statement

The new series explores the darker facets of human condition. The image is suspended within the clear block, creating a delicate tension between the solid and the ethereal, the traditional and the experimental..This series named ‘Dystopia,’ portrays groups of cloned girls. They are dressed in school uniforms and occupy a lawless world, staged in a primordial forest. They consume themselves or are being consumed with dark romantic scenarios of pagan rituals, sacrifices and exorcisms. Having grown up in boarding schools, I made sense of the world through fairy tales and imaimagination. We studied Lord of the Flies while my mother read The Brothers Grimm tales to me. The work at times is autobiographical but the impact is universal; good versus evil, handling infancy and memory memory in its fantastical dimension shared by everyone. I place the viewer in an intermediate world between a child’s nightmare and fairy tale.
