Artist's Statement

Collage has always been a major element of my work, as it represents an archaeology of individual, intimate feelings. Exploring collage in greater depth through three dimensional works containing human and environmental elements in aquariums of cast acrylic resin, as well as paintings, drawings, and sculpture incorporating found and recycled materials, trash and other detritus, I continue to investigate the clash between the natural world and the manmade, as well the fragility of all animal life in the face of human intervention.

I’m interested in “artifacts” from consumerist culture, and our general indifference to where our trash comes from and what it becomes. By asking the viewer to interact with garbage in a different way, I’m initiating a conversation about the relationship of a disposable economy to the environment and to the practice and business of selling art.
