Artist's Statement

In my recent work milk and Mickey Mouse function as the base, obsession and growth for my life and ideas about art. Mickey Mouse, like a chloral hydrate Mickey Finn drug, has slipped into my childhood as both wholesome and haunting imagery. I visually dissect the mouse with ballpoint pen revealing muscle and hair in a manipulated iconic silhouette. The cartoon mouse infests my mind while milk fills my body. My milk bottle sculptures reference my grandparents dairy farm in Hong Kong during the 1960's. The milk bottles are platforms for ubiquitous visual data that push my life to destinations unknown.

Bio/Resume

I was born in Canada to Sri Lankan and Chinese immigrants. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. In 2007 I was Critics' Pick on Artforum.com for a three person show I organized at Le Gallery in Toronto, Canada. That same year I was featured in Border Crossing and did a solo exhibition at Receiver Gallery in San Francisco, California. My drawings were recently on the December 2009 cover of DOMUS Italian architecture magazine along with a feature story.
