Sharon L. Butler
My ideas are drawn from everyday objects and imagery, like ships-in-bottles, car dealer flags, construction materials, mind maps, fireworks, floor plans, the number eight, Lily Pulitzer dresses, geometric motifs from my father’s old paintings, vomit, cage-like crosshatched lines, and, of course, art history. The paintings are based on collages from my sketchbooks. http://www.sharonlbutler.com
Recent paintings can be seen in "On Display," an exhibition curated by Hrag Vartanian (http://hyperallergic.com) at STOREFRONT, 16 Wilson Ave. Bushwick, BK. The exhibition, which also includes work by Cathy Nan Quinlan and Joy Curtis runs through August 22, 2010.
