I am a photographic artist interested in the narrative, symbolic and poetic possibilities of imagery.
My current project “The Resistance in Two Parts” uses the events of the Holocaust, when Muslims hid Jews in the Grand Mosque of Paris, as a central paradigm to investigate the range of what resistance can be and what we can learn from it.
In part one of this series, I utilize photographs taken in Paris and Istanbul to imagine, outside of history and yet beholden to it, the merging of what have become, in time, binaries—Jews and Muslims. The seamless merging of the two communities creates new images, ones that waver vertiginously, forcing us to look more closely for differences and similarities.
