Artist's Statement

Photography, film, poetry, painting, & drawing. Several series underway as I edit my surrealist feature film. The notion of jumping from a plane with a parachute without knowing where to land: this kind of risk-taking is necessary for me otherwise there’s no need for me in particular to create. Lots of ideas out there but who jumps? My work reflects a fascination with the Brechtian concept of “the alienation effect”, an emphasis on stylization that is sometimes cloaked in visual classicism, and lots of other random influences. I like the way a snapshot can be debated or dismissed; or how two well-constructed sentences can feel like a novel.
