Artist's Statement

I launched the mechanical power series in 1997, since then it has been the main avenue for my artistic expression. I see it as a challenge to combine the usage of precision technology with plastic aesthetics. In this series, I have employed a highly sophisticated manufacturing process. A work of art may consist of a single part or hundreds or even thousands of different parts; yet, despite this massive complexity, visually it leaves an impression of simplicity. Through various rhythms in the work created based on precise mechanical theories, I try to tell stories with a cultural and poetic touch. I regard the absolute precision of mechanical movements as an abstract language. This abstract language is an integral part of the work, and even transcends the visual imagery of the work in delivering the life philosophy of the work.
