Rasah Subtler (Sarah Butler)
One thing about studio practice is how it tips the sense that “there’s no time”. Exactly. There’s only now. And everything is a part of that. Walks, food, family, community.
I continue to do ambidextrous writing, accumulative studies in gesture and mark-making. My new projects add print, collage and painted elements.
The Mudras are hand movements, right drawn by left and vice versa. Moon Scrolls are corner drawings in time with the moon phases. I Ching studies are the hexagrams written in reverse, planted outdoors and photographed at interval.
Keywords: calligraphy, écriture, ephemera, everyday, work on paper
