Rachel Owens
The human social condition, our ecosystem, political strife and the inextricable ways these things are connected is the basis of my art practice. The formal and the conceptual are intertwined in such a way that the materials and the forms they create, formulate the conceptual and experiential aspects of the work. Humor as well as sadness is invoked in order to bring an emotional resonance, what the work is about and what the work does is equally important and the same.
Rachel Owens completed her MFA at the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been included in exhibitions at the Austrian Cultural Forum, Lehman Maupin, Socrates Sculpture Park, Apex Art and others both nationally and internationally. She recently had her 4th solo show at Ziehersmith Gallery in Chelsea. Her work has been reviewed widely including The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Art in America.
