Artist's Statement

My work uses a combination of sculptural form and painted image to create a shifting visual experience, destabilizing perception and causing us to question how we see and what we believe.
My recent work is based around two main themes: Towers — vertical structures relating to skylines, monuments, pillars, totems, forests, markers, gate posts, etc., and Portals — border forms enclosing negative cut-out space relating to the idea of the edge, seam, framing, transition between one thing and another thing, inside/outside, this world and other worlds.
In both cases, an idea of what is concrete, physical, structural and real mixes with the more illusive ideas of belief, perception, mystery and the search for meaning and value.
