Artist's Statement
These paintings are intentionally figureless. I want to evoke a kind of visual handshake. The space between the picture plan and the viewer is very personal. With painting I’m not seeking out facts. Photography can offer you all the facts. These paintings avoid that. They have anxiety and are not perfect. The application of the paint is very simple and rarely repetitive. I’m always cropping out part of the last mark made. Eventually I want them reveal the history slowly and with a little hesitance.
