Olivia Barr
I am rooted in photography and my work plays upon the mechanics of the photographic process as installation. I hone elements such as time, light, shadows, and lenses to insert images into the public sphere. My work indulges both the illusionist magic show and the low-fi inventiveness of photography’s beginnings.
The images themselves encompass signifiers that are at once environmental, historic, and personally based. Each project relies on specific locations in the public sphere to shape meaning. My projects seek to create a space where ideas of history and cultural values can be rearranged or translated through innovations of context.
