My recent work has been about the portrait tradition. I identify with artists like like Richard Phillips, Will Cotton, John Currin, Eric Fischl, David Hockney, Francis Bacon, Alice Neel, Andy Warhol and Lucian Freud who have all produced paintings in this genre. I am working on my own voice in painting which I prefer to call “figurative” as opposed to “portrait”. The idea of stillness or time frozen in a moment is interesting to me. You can see examples of this mood in the paintings of Gerhard Richter and Vermeer.
