Momir Bulovic
After coming to New York in 2002, I immediately began to explore the cultural context of my new environment. Conversely, the events in the late nineties in former Yugoslavia still present in my mindset and new work. I determined and merged old and new social contexts, and found that deeper analysis of society, evolving from skepticism ,fear and social commentary, emerged from within this search for pure faith and truth.
Urban mythology, street culture and contemporary events are visibly existent in my work. Large scale portraits, the use of red color, expressive brush strokes and political and historical figures in my work are integrated with religious imagery and textual statements.
