Artist's Statement
The exaggerated facial expressions and stock characters in this series of paintings emphasize the identity of the subjects. Like tronies, Dutch Baroque paintings of heads, the pictures presented are not depictions of people who are real. Instead they are evocative types, summoned straight from Central Casting. Their emotions and psychology are made evident in their visual appearance.
