Artist's Statement

My recent work is about intimacy and directness. It is a defined space in which imagery reflects the unperceived; the colors, shapes and movements are inextricably tied to its brief moments of creation. I control, I let go and then I repeat. It's a systematic approach that leads to an increased understanding of the process. It is an experiment in openness, both creative and intellectual. Because I am not working with representations of the external world, I am not limited to my own perception of it, but rather I am free to explore an alternate visual existence, one filled with indelible and visceral abstractions.

Bio/Resume

Meshakai Wolf was born in a small town in northern California in 1979. A few years later his family moved back to New York City where he lived until he was 18. He attended university in Atlanta, Georgia, receiving a B.A. in philosophy. He remained in Atlanta where he began exhibiting art and making films. In 2004, he opened New Street, an art and music gallery that exhibited emerging local artists. In 2006, he had his first solo show in New York City at Tatistcheff Gallery, a photographic series of urban animals dead on the roads of Atlanta. He has exhibited his work in Atlanta, Florida and New York and screened his films all over the country. His most recent work with Polaroid film experiments with the medium's incredible manipulable elements of color and chemical. He currently lives and works in New York City. www.meshakaiwolf.com
