Artist's Statement

“What is history but a fable agreed upon?” – Napoleon Bonaparte

These are fake history paintings. More specifically, these are paintings of ceremonies that surround fictitious historic moments. The group activities and staged events in my paintings mimic ceremonies and rituals of the past. These events depict important moments of human interaction. The participants celebrate, grieve, react, enact, reenact, worship, commemorate, protest, commiserate, commune and bond. These paintings speak to our need for communal activities and how those activities are being constantly redefined by history.
