This painting recipe highlights the flavors of heritage ingredients. Assemble: 1 heavy load of ambivalence. 2 plugs of regret. 8-10 dashes of European travel. Beer (as required.) 1 steaming pile of enthusiasm, cooled slightly. Directions: Step 1. Halve ambivalence, separating a sense of futility from focused sensory engagement. Pickle disbelief in beer. Return all ingredients to pot; stir, 2 days to 8 months. Reserve judgment; chill. Step 2. A bit of clotting is to be expected. Remove excess fat and gristle. Repeat step 1. Step 3. Maybe your dreams will show you what to paint. Wouldn't that be great? Step 4. Carefully fold in time, ambition, memory, fascination, and all the money you can spare. Repeat step 1, adding the money you can't spare. Step 5. It still needs a little something, doesn't it? Try adding cobalt blue. Currently serves 1.
