Artist's Statement

I live in the realm of plans, blueprints, models. Within my work I engage ideas about past, present & future, folding them into anachronistic constructs which touch on the metadiscourse of what an explanatory diagram might be. I produce reflections of the particularities of our culture, absurd meditations on human hubris & collective ambition. Among my source materials are engineering manuals, statistical data, spiritual diagrams, Google Earth searches & all manner of maps.

I am interested in that point where an idea becomes a visualizable outcome, with the intimate, tactile nature of the artwork counterbalancing the enormous scale of the implied project. Much of my recent work is multidisciplinary, often site-specific installations which include the surrounding architecture into the matrix. I “draw” with string into a given space, making connections between the present indexical now & other, less tangible possibilities...
