Sigmund Freud wrote, “The conscious mind may be compared to a fountain playing in the sun and falling back into the great subterranean pool of subconscious from which it rises.” Like the cyclical spring and cascade of Freud’s water source, my ongoing body of work instigates a psychological dialogue with the female subconscious. Inspired by my own psycho-analytical introspection, the photographs of mysterious female protagonists gesturing within the frame of a mirror, reflect fragments of personal experience and emotions.
Emerging artist Manuela Paz is a graduate from the School of Visual Arts photography program. Paz has been exhibiting her work locally in and around the New York area in group shows since 2002. Her photographs have been exhibited at venues such as Paul Morris Gallery, P.S.122 and Artists Space. Manuela Paz currently lives in Sunnyside, Queens while holding a studio in Greenpont Brooklyn. She also holds the position of Director of VIP Relations for The Armory Show, America's leading fine art fair devoted to the most important art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
