Artist's Statement

My grandfather was a painter and my mother taught me how to draw when I was a child. I was raised in Tokyo, where things are a little too clean and orderly for my taste.
On my first trip to New York I visited the Guggenheim Museum, with all the colors of the artwork reflecting down through the spiral to the ground floor. I fell in love with the city and moved here to Brooklyn, where I live and work and find my inspiration.
I love the subway: urban caves with industrial-organic drips, drops and stains, peeling surfaces and dynamic lines. I’m drawn to construction sites: the hum of activity, the danger, strong lines and bold movements. To me, these are the elements of great painting.

My studio is near the Graham Ave. stop on the L train. Please contact me for a studio visit.
