Artist's Statement

“Humor permits all the repressed, fermenting aspects of the self in the form of (linguistic) images, with their paradoxes and ambiguities to rise to the surface and be worked on in sublimated form. In this way the comic has the function of a psychological escape valve, helping us accept our weaknesses, defeats and existential angst, or at least to understand them better. This side of humor helps us cope with repressive social processes, in the face of which we so rapidly feel powerless…” (When Humour Becomes Painful, Lunn&Munder).
My work can be seen as a combination of various assemblage techniques. Every object incorporates found and fabricated materials to create a composition that references cultural, social and/or political iconography in a twisted and humorous manner. The works simulate traditional forms of artistic expression, and appropriate diverse subcultural aesthetics, inserting them in an adverse context.
