Artist's Statement

Kevin Umaña’s latest series of minimalist paintings focuses on the comfort of rich patterns of his daily observations by establishing a solid foundation that tackles both color and design. Often drawing inspiration from the shapes and forms of everyday objects. While working with a wide assortment of materials such as, acrylic and latex paint, gouache, repurposed wood and linen. Umaña’s paintings feature hard-edge paintings with sharp contours and geometric shapes painted on flat areas of color.Through the use of a flat regulated patterns, Umaña uses the paintings to draw attention to pictorial structures, organization and color balance. The idea of achieving the fundamental concept of a form, the concept of a structure and then addressing the painting so that the solid form has a clean context.
