Artist's Statement

With a focus on human behavior, my videos and performances ask questions about how people interact with one another, the morés and norms we follow — sometimes unconsciously, whether social deviation is the path to achieve a more perfect state of personal freedom and how preconditioned gender roles affect our individual actions. Rhythm and movement of both the subject and each piece’s overall tone are important formal considerations to me, as well as the implications of the materials I’m using.

I often push my body’s endurance to test exactly what a person can accomplish without the mind getting in the way, when all the social training disappears and all that’s left is the most unequivocal state of being. Ideas for my work usually begin from people watching. Once I have a direction I start a series of drawings to develop a storyboard for the completed piece.
