My drawings show animals doing various activities, typically watching, hunting, sleeping or nesting. These are the most fundamental of behaviors for any animal and represent the basic elements of species survival. The stark blackness of graphite on white paper, which is often left partially blank, isolates the subjects and makes them seem alone, even when in a pair. Detailed pencilling lends delicacy to the drawings, and the texture of fur, scales, and feathers makes the creatures tangible. My renderings illustrate a harsh but elegant existence in the animal kingdom.
