Artist's Statement

I see my work as a permanent construction site in constant flux. I started as a painter, I was working as set designer and costume designer, lately I co wrote play, to concentrate right now on drawing. My work is affected a lot by psychoanalysis, philosophy, literature, culture and everyday life. I feel strongly about politics, but I am not an activist. I just have anti fascist and leftist view point, which I feel like expressing. Rhizome is a concept to which I relate to. Being involved in theater after graduating fulfilled neglected during school urge for collaboration, which I see as one of great art potentials. I explore right now drawing medium. Tension between local and global, inner and external, the way they overlap, dialogue with art history, dreams, subconscious those are themes that interest me. I believe that artist is no longer an outcast, he fits into the system in many ways, as a problem crusher, exemplary agent.

Karolina Sulich (°1983, Warsaw, Poland) is an artist who mainly works with drawing. By rejecting an objective truth and global cultural narratives, Sulich tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way, likes to involve the viewer in a way that is sometimes physical and believes in the idea of function following form in a work. She was and still work as a set designer and costume designer. She lives and works currently in New York.
