Artist's Statement

Recently, I have been exploring the cross as a visual element; sometimes a singular cross or multiple crosses joined together like the patchwork of a quilt. There’s a freedom in my work and working process that offsets a simultaneous rigor. I try to maintain an element of openness to the process that allows new and unexpected discoveries to occur. My paintings are constructed with many layers of paint that are sanded between each application resulting in a smooth refined finish. Ultimately, I like to be surprised by my work.
