Artist's Statement

It all began with an intuitive notion of convulsive beauty. The creatures that have been as of late living in the jungles of my imagination are not so much beasts from far away, but a cast of mutants whose progenitors might be people, places and objects I meet every day; fantasies that play parallel to my reality frame by frame. These characters have been intertwined with the blood-spattered detail and superficial elegance of the conservative roman catholic society I grew up in. The savage and the baroque may make strange bed companions, but lately I have been sleeping with both of them.
