John Houck works with constellations of images to explore the traces of urban and social topologies. Working with sculpture and found images, John creates photographs that are constructed in the studio and juxtaposes these constructed images with straight documentary photographs. The finished photo series are structured like a language. The images are printed at various sizes and relate spatially and through their captioning.
John Houck studied architecture as an undergraduate and earned an MFA from UCLA in 2007. John has shown nationally and internationally. He recently attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and is currently in the studio program of the Whitney Independent Study Program. Prior to the Whitney ISP, he served as an adjunct faculty member at UCLA and SCIArc, in the architecture department.
