Joe Brittain
My sculptures and drawings play with the extraction of definition from pre-existing cultural forms of authority while simultaneously searching for shape and content in their vagueness. The work combines vernacular mass culture with personal narratives in hopes of finding objects and spaces that are equal parts ambiguous and eloquent. I strive to craft meaning through these metaphoric and materialistic acts of aggregation, creating monuments to psychic transformation and moments congealed at their greatest intensity.
