My most recent body of work examines the critical relationship of painting to other forms of visual culture and authority. Glimpsing a culture both passively recorded and obsessively in pursuit of the visible, the paintings point to the contested gray zone between forms of authority, sanction, and visibility. Assembling imagery drawn from contemporary news media, film, and television, the work suggests a recorded and degraded frontier zone between shadowy archive and collective unconsciousness.
