My current work brings me back to non- objective abstraction after painting rocks for 4 years. Rather than representation, my new work excavates, and illuminates systematic structures rooted in nature.
James Gillispie currently resides and works in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He received his MFA from Yale University in 2006 and his BFA from MICA in 2004. James was rewarded the Williamsburg Artist Material Prize and the Gamblin Paint Award. He was invited to Utah State University’s painting residency in 2005. He recently had a solo exhibition at Vox Populi in Philadelphia.
