I seek the intrinsic properties of natural phenomena to develop works that are experiential and intent upon capturing one's imagination through poetics and beauty, often at the threshold of perceptual awareness. Light, video and sound are given voice through meta-cognitive, psychophysiological, and empirical means of negotiating with an immersive work. Calibrating time-based compositions to the human senses, I attempt to elicit a resonance within our bodies. Providing pathways between physical and virtual worlds, my aim is to convey the ‘world’ in a manner that awakens our connection to it. For my creative endeavors are posited as possible truths that extend from nature.
I was initially drawn to the arts through writing poetry and my love for film in the years prior to college. I graduated from the University of Washington's Digital Arts & Experimental Media (DXARTS) program with a BFA in 2008. Digital video was my primary mode of expression. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is where I am earning my MFA in Art & Technology Studies. Seeking to extend my video work I am drawn to the inherent power of light-based installations.
