my work involves the combination of fine carpentry and non-traditional painting techniques. i build wall sculpture/assemblage paintings from re-claimed woods that i salvage from the dumpsters of furniture makers and a movie studio near to my studio on the brooklyn waterfront. i arrange, or draw with the wood scraps building patterned compositions that i later cover with thin layers of acrylic gel mediums: www.ejindustrialarts.com phn: 9176534343
During his formative years Eric Johnston was introduced to the world of fine art by neighbor, friend and primitive painter Ralph Fasanella, who handed down his used art supplies. After earning a BFA from SUNY Purchase in New York, Eric landed a job as the lead studio assistant for the renowned colorfield painter Kenneth Noland. It was during his years working as a decorative paint artist and professional scenic, that Eric formed 'el Royale' Designs, a boutique home furnishings studio based in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2000 Eric returned to his native NY and began building sets for T.V. and film. In 2007 Eric unveiled his latest opus eric johnston industrial arts out of his Brooklyn Navy Yard studio.
