Artist's Statement

In Emet Sosna’s painting there is an attempt to combine the cultural high art painting traditions, and to develop a fluid formal language with paint. The affect of knowing how to represent one self and others visually brings to question the nature of self-expression. Is the depiction of the person the result of the individual artist’s expression or is it the result of the preconceived expression of previous depictions? Using the cultural art painting traditions and combining these methods becomes a metaphor for expression, identity, history, the individual and the collective.
