The notion that the earth is not an endless supply of raw materials has contributed to recent developments in sustainability, which take into account symbiosis and the conscientious handling of energy and material. The magician sees the universe as a living being, it's visible appearance veiling the real nature of it's co-creative energy. Through the symbolic and contemplative interaction with key physical processes, the inner self might be transformed, personified by the infamous quest to make gold from base matter. In experimenting with the the body as philosophy in a parallel form my practice engages performance based photography, sculpture, and video in constant remembrance of the following phrase by Antonin Artaud, "In our present state of degeneration it is through the skin that metaphysics must be made to re-enter our minds."
