Double A Projects Athena Robles/ Anna Stein
We (artists Athena Robles and Anna Stein) began working in collaboration in 2007, bringing together our sculptural practices using historical and cultural references, public space and paper media. Recent projects have examined counter culture systems and expanded upon forms of public art and installation. In our work, key elements of public art are combined with conventional forms of sculpture and installation. For each project we explore the many ways possible to convey ideas, re-invent visual vocabularies, and encourage audience engagement with art.
Robles and Stein’s project Counter Culture Cash was presented as part of Jamaica Flux 2007 and featured on artnet.com. Their work has been exhibited at Fountain Art Fair in Miami, Front Room Gallery in Brooklyn and University of Massachusetts Gallery, among other locations. They received grants from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the September 11th Fund, and the Puffin Foundation, for their project The Global Free Store, which received worldwide media attention. Most recently they presented Free Emporium and Gift Exchange at Cuchifritos Gallery in New York.
