Artist's Statement

My oil paintings, synthesized from observation and imagination, are a dialogue between the observed and the remembered, the planned and the surprise that happens on the canvas. In these current images of water and women, it is the water that increasingly plays a larger role in the image, with the figures often cropped and distorted by reflections and undulations. Layers of colors and shapes, applied with a palette knife, are reworked and changed in search of a balance between abstraction and representation while the figures appear and disappear in the fluid surfaces of each painting.
