My AHA moment ..
It was my first day of a color course at Union College. Joseph Albers, the color theorist developed the program and I was looking at a color chart of overlapping hues indicating light and transparency. I looked at this chart and I was transformed, transported, thrilled, and I knew I was home. I knew instantly that I would devote my life to this color language.... this was MY language, my source.
As a teenager, I had always been a top student in math, geometry, chemistry and physics but when it came to writing an essay or reading and writing a report, I was hopeless. I would avoid it at all extremes. I had a photography darkroom at home where I would spend hours printing graphic images and I presented my photo essays to my English teachers to avoid having to write reports. It worked.
My work is about freedom and I am inspired by all of the great artists that came before me.
