Having been schooled in graphic design and typography, I am interested in combining the formal rules of design (composition, scale, color, etc) with a painterly style that includes layered colors, texture, and iconic drawings. The content of my work varies and can include ironic or transgressive themes. Overall, however, I am intrigued by the notion of juxtaposing past and present and expressing that in a way that is both personal and universal. I look at my work as a playground where shape, line, and color can converge and somehow find a space between abstraction and representation – or the new and old.
